Code of Ethics for Clinicians: Consent, Capacity & Competence
This online training course offered by Halbert Education & Training, and written by UK academics, is aimed at candidates interested in consent, capacity and competence of patients. The online delivery method allows materials to be taken at a pace defined by the candidate towards achieving a certificate approved by the Publication Integrity & Ethics (π) and continuous professional development (CPD) of 20 points for undergraduates, postgraduates and professionals in clinical environment. Areas including unconscious patient, confused patient, duty of care and mental health in clinical environment will be discussed as part of this course along with up-to-date case studies and procedures in case of breach of ethical code of conduct.

Target audience
The educational opportunities in this course provide a tailored learning experience targeted at the diverse needs and interests of individuals with Health sciences background, especially Doctors (medics, including: interns, residents, trainees, physicians, surgeons, general practitioners and consultants), Dentists and Pharmacists.

We support flexible approaches with the understanding that many of our candidates have clinical and family commitments. All you require is a commitment of around 5 hours per week (for 4 weeks) and an appropriate access to a networked computer.
Course format
The format of this full online course includes:

> Course materials (case study, introduction and history, literature review and renowned cases).
> Pre-assessment exercises (to test and consolidate your knowledge prior to the assessment).
> Course assessment (3-part online assessment, 10 questions per part).
> Feedback and certification (the certificate is issued when the online assessment is passed and feedback on the course is given).
Course Content
The course materials are downloadable and written in English (UK). The exercises, assessment and certification are easily accessed online and compatible with the commonly used browsers.

This online distance learning programme integrates the various issues related to consent, capacity and competence of patients. Assessment and certification
The assessment is 3-part and in MCQ format. The questions are developed to ensure basic (not advanced) understanding of the subject. Part 1 has to be attempted and passed before the candidate can attempt part 2, and so on. When part 3 is attempted and passed, then the course is completed and the certificate can be issued. One re-sit is allowed for every part of the assessment. If the candidate fails the re-sit, access to the course will be terminated and no certificate will be issued. Appeals are allowed.
