Waseem lectures internationally on head and neck oncology, optical diagnostics and photodynamic therapy and teaches in many postgraduate courses. He also sat on many conferences’ programme committees including HNODS, SPIE, BMLA and ASLMS.

Waseem is a founder member of the Head and Neck Diagnostics Society (a UCLH-based registered research charity) and Hard Tissue Society, Editor-in-Chief of two journals: Head & Neck Oncology and Hard Tissue; both published by Open Access Publishing London.

Waseem has an extensive research portfolio (PubMed search: Jerjes W). Waseem has been working as a clinical academic rotating in several posts at University College London (where he finished his medical degree) for nearly 10 years.

Waseem has received early postgradute training in anaesthesia, intensive care medicine, cardiology, general medicine, stroke medicine and rehabilitation medicine. His basic surgical training involved 18 months in Trauma & Orthopaedics and 6 months in General Surgery at Leeds Teaching Hospitals. His training in oral and maxillofacial/head and neck surgery involved a year of clinical research fellowship, followed by two years of senior clinical research fellowships at University College London Hospitals.

He has delivered over 100 lectures/presentations and received several prizes, grants and commendations from the British Association of Oral & maxillofacial Surgeons, British Medical Laser Association and Head & Neck Optical Diagnostics Society. He has also organised many courses worldwide on photodynamic therapy, lasers and optical diagnostics.

He is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (FHEA) and a Fellow of the Academy of Medical Educators (FAcadMed).

He was a sub-investigator of the first ever human trial (carried out at UCL/UCLH) to evaluate the safety and tolerance of Amphinex based Photochemical Internalisation (PCI) of bleomycin in patients with local recurrence or advanced/metastatic, cutaneous or sub-cutaneous malignancies.

As a medic, dentist and scientist, Waseem has great interest in research integrity, publication ethics, governance, management and leadership as well as the legal side of medicine. Waseem is also a member of HIFA2015.
